Systems has earned NICET Level III certification in fire protection. This certification is a major milestone that reflects our team’s ongoing commitment to quality, safety, and technical excellence.
What Is NICET III?
NICET (the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) certification is one of the most respected credentials in the fire protection industry. It’s awarded across four levels, and Level III represents senior-level, advanced competency in a specific discipline; in our case, it represents competency in fire-alarm systems.
What sets NICET apart from other professional certifications is that it’s competency based. It doesn’t just measure traditional knowledge gained through books or classes; it validates real, documented field experience and the technical judgment and expertise that comes with it. Earning Level III requires passing a rigorous exam and demonstrating thousands of hours of hands-on work in fire protection.
To earn a NICET Level III credential, technicians must meet the following criteria:
- Total Experience: 5 years of industry-related experience.
- System Experience: At least 45 months experience in areas like installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, planning, code compliance review, project management, sales and estimating.
- Management Experience: A minimum of 1 year in a technical management, project management, or supervisory position.
- Independent Recommendation: Verification of your ability to perform tasks independently by a supervisor, engineer, or client.
Why It Matters
NICET III certification allows our team to perform complex design, inspection, testing, and layout work for fire alarm systems with a high degree of independence and expertise. In Minnesota, it’s also a recognized qualification for managing fire protection projects and is referenced by state licensing boards, municipal code enforcement, insurance underwriters, and commercial contracts that require qualified personnel.
